Along The Way

Along The Way

Medrar announces “Along The Way” exhibition
by Tawfig, Abdelrahman Mahmoud and Dalila Hassanein
While public space functions as a realm for social interaction, it also acts as a contested field where forces of order and freedom intersect; the interaction between urban design, surveillance, and street culture reshapes the notions of the center and the periphery.
The exhibition features works by Tawfig, Abdelrahman Mahmoud, and Dalila Hassanein. Tawfig narrates stories of characters from various age groups in Upper Egypt, brought together by their shared profession as drivers despite their diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Abdelrahman reflects on his personal experiences, raising questions about social contradictions and their impact on concepts of freedom and chaos. Meanwhile, Dalila explores the influence of European designs on Cairo’s streets through diverse mediums, where traffic barriers transform from regulatory tools into symbols of authority that perpetuate chaos in the local context.
Join us for the opening night, on Sunday,12th of January, 2025, at 7 PM at Medrar.
The exhibition runs until Sunday, 2nd of February, 2025, Open daily from 4 to 9 PM, except Friday.
