The artist and writer Abu El-Fotouh El-Barasi is a prominent cultural figure in the Arab and, in particular, Egyptian artistic, literary, and cultural movements. He has made numerous cultural contributions, drawing on his academic, literary, and critical studies at various levels. His upbringing in Upper Egypt immersed him in the diverse tapestry of Egyptian culture in general, and Upper Egyptian culture in particular. The visual artist Abu El-Fotouh El-Barasi was born in the desert of Upper Egypt, in the Minya Governorate. He is a multi-talented and versatile artist, a poet, and a researcher of Egyptian folklore and Bedouin culture. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minya University, as part of its first graduating class, specializing in mural painting. He holds a diploma in the elective specialization of psychology and graphic arts. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in mural art from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University. He earned a diploma from the Higher Institute of Folk Arts, Academy of Arts, Giza. He received a master's degree from the Faculty of African Studies, Cairo University, on the topic of "Anthropological Significance in Desert Dwellings: The Libyan Arab House as a Model." Worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Derna, Libya, from 1992 to 1997. Worked as a set designer and scenographer in the Production Sector of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union and the National Media Authority in Maspero. Founder of the Minya Bedouin Literature Club and several other Egyptian Bedouin literature clubs. Conceived the idea for the Bedouin House at the Cairo International Book Fair in 2015. Founder and President of the Maspero Fine Artists Association since 2000. Founder and President of the Bedouin Literature and Folklore Division of the Egyptian Writers Union since 2021. Writer of scripts and the scientific and dramatic content for numerous radio and television programs on Maspero and the Upper Egypt Channel. Member of the Cairo Atelier for Artists and Writers. Member of the Syndicate of Fine Artists. Member of the Syndicate of Cinematic Professions. Member of the Egyptian Writers Union.
