Born in the Moment

Born in the Moment

Under the title "Born in the Moment," visual artist Walid Nayef opens his new exhibition on April 28th at Yassin Gallery in Zamalek, presenting a unique visual experience that rejects the notion of "static time."

The exhibition is based on a profound philosophy: "There is no now." For Nayef, the present is an elusive "act of passage," born and dying in the same instant, leaving behind "scars" and "scratches" that alone prove our existence on the canvas.

With a unique blend of precise "landscape design" and conscious improvisation, Nayef's paintings transform into alternative timelines, employing earth tones, rust, and scratching techniques to connect the engravings of early caves with the contemporary "walls of social media," as a human cry against annihilation.

Waleed Nayef is a contemporary visual artist (born in Nineveh, Iraq in 1967). He graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema (Department of Scenography) in 1989.

Over a career spanning three decades, he has successfully blended his deep-rooted Iraqi heritage with his distinctly Egyptian sensibility into a unique artistic language.

Nayef is considered one of the most prominent figures in the artistic development of children's magazines in the Arab world. He is the creator and illustrator of the iconic character "Aladdin," imbuing him with his visual and spiritual essence from the moment of his creation.
