The artist Afaf Abu Zeid’s brush flows through drawing Bedouin life, heritage, and everything related to folklore, including natural scenes, antiques, and others. She participated in international and local exhibitions in Riyadh, Dubai, Alexandria University, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, and historic Jeddah with Ihsan Burhan and Hisham Panjabi. She also participated with the artist Maher. Al-Awlaki in the exhibition “The Legacy of Our Ancestors’ Profession” in one of the fine arts halls in Jeddah, in addition to enrolling in artistic courses with the artist Muhammad Al-Khazraji, Nahar Marzouki, and Dr. Muhannad Al-Dawoud.
When asked about the art school to which she belongs, she said: I belong to the realist and impressionist schools, and my paintings are distinguished by their beauty, the life of the Bedouins in the past, and the heritage that adorns the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, being a historical fragrant, as well as the heritage in the Eastern Province, and I imagine that folklore is a source of inspiration for creative people in all fields. .
Regarding her paintings, which she is proud of, she said: I am proud of many of my artistic paintings, especially those that have fingerprints and human touches. The realist school abounds with such works, and there are many artists who have extremely amazing works of art.
Regarding her vision for plastic art in addressing societal issues, she said: Plastic art can address issues because art is like a scenario of the ability to interrogate human features, and it is a translation of the conflicts and secrets of the human soul. Everything that goes on inside us is translated into applied aesthetics, and here lies creativity. Plastic art is creative thought, so the artist The real and creative person is the person who interacts with the issues of his society, such as the Corona issue and this global pandemic that the whole world is suffering from, and how to prevent it. Here comes the role of the artist in warning of Corona and warning people of this pandemic. He draws the tragedy with a specific goal and directing visual culture. The true artist, with intent and knowledge, blends the suffering of his society. And be honest by directing drawing to express societal issues.
She went on to say that the plastic arts are divided into painting, sculpture, graphics, and photography, which reproduce visual reality with varying degrees of sensory accuracy, either three-dimensional sculpture or two-dimensional such as painting, graphics, and photography.
