Abdullah Sayel, a Saudi cartoonist and writer, was born in the city of Riyadh and was distinguished by a strong talent for drawing since his childhood. He began publishing in the Saudi press since he was a middle school child, in the year 1985 AD. At that time, his works were praised by the most important artists of this stage in Saudi Arabia.

He was born in Riyadh, and received his education in the children's schools. After that, his father (an officer in the armed forces) moved to the city of Tabuk (northwest of Saudi Arabia), a city that greatly influenced his formation and gained its luck in being present in his writings later, and from there he moved to the eastern region to live in Dhahran with his father and studied there for part of the intermediate and secondary stages, and after that he returned To Riyadh to finish high school and study at King Saud University.

He started writing newspapers since his childhood. He wrote to Al-Jazeera newspaper, Al-Riyadh newspaper, and even to the London-based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper. At the time, the press welcomed this young artist due to his distinguished ability to draw portraits of famous people of art and stars. After that, he settled as an amateur on the “Caricature Club” page, which was published every Friday in Al-Jazeera newspaper during the eighties, and published the drawings of Saudi amateur cartoonists.

He started his professional career after the end of his university education, so he returned to writing and drawing through Al-Jazeera newspaper, which embraced his talent for years, and achieved in it a presence that was distinguished by originality and difference in lines, drawing, and topics, and the diversity of his artistic giving to include the caricature corner, drawings, articles, and accompanying drawings for a number of pages and appendices. Then he moved to the Saudi Research and Publishing Company, and worked for Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper since 2002. He accompanied her transition from black and white to color printing, and achieved with her an Arab presence as well in terms of interest in his art and his mature style of presentation. His works were characterized by diversity, as he did not preoccupy himself with superficial issues, but rather dealt with the economic issue and its impact on the family and the individual. He was the first to present the autism disorder in drawing and writing on the press scene, and to raise the issue professionally after much jurisprudence of those interested, leading to his supervision of a weekly page concerned with presenting the dimensions of the problem through investigations, dialogues, and articles. He was known for his influential media presence, and from him he conveyed his experience to work on the European program on Radio Riyadh for a short period, and he also participated in a weekly television program to introduce drawing skills. He also participated in introducing a number of talents and introducing them to the press. He also co-authored a number of publications, and wrote scripts for Arab satellite channels. His name was associated with illustrated story series issued by literary clubs in Saudi Arabia. He was also one of the pioneers in designing cartoon characters for animation in Saudi Arabia and supervised series shown on the most important Arab satellite channels.
Character Magazine
A monthly satirical cartoon magazine published by "Al-Majalla" magazine. It was launched in 2006 and stopped at the beginning of 2010. Its monthly publication continued for four years, and it was distributed locally, in the Arab world and internationally with "Al-Majalla" magazine. It is considered the first magazine specialized in the art of caricature and satirical writing in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf region. He worked as editor-in-chief alongside the editor-in-chief, Abd al-Wahhab al-Fayez, then as deputy editor-in-chief until it was discontinued. He had worked with Al-Fayez and a number of his colleagues to publish it instead of the weekly caricature art page in Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper. The “Character” magazine presented a large number of talents, and was characterized by its satirical treatment and balance in its presentation, despite the excessive mockery of many details of Saudi society. It is an easy and abstaining method, through which “Creactor” said a lot, without a suspension decision issued by the Ministry of Information against her. The magazine achieved great success among the elites, and it was more successful in the Arab countries than it was in Saudi Arabia at the popular level, due to its association with an ancient political publication that Saudi youth are not keen on.

The Saudi Society for Caricature and Animation: He worked on establishing it while Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Sabil, Deputy Minister for Cultural Affairs. His colleagues nominated him to head its board of directors after announcing its official establishment. During this period, he contributed to the establishment of national competitions for Saudi cartoons, supported by the Ministry of Culture. He also participated in holding exhibitions specialized in the art of caricature for amateurs and professionals, and trained amateurs and university students in Saudi Arabia on drawing in general and caricature drawing in particular.
