Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Shilti, a Saudi plastic artist and photographer, was born in the city of Abha in 1952 AD (1372 AH). He is considered one of the pioneers of plastic art in the Asir region and in Saudi Arabia, and is distinguished by his influential style, which derives his subjects from the reality of the southern environment, which is full of picturesque nature and distinguished building patterns.

Al-Shalti grew up in a humble family and a society that was dominated by harmony and interdependence, as his family used to spend their days between the house, the farm, and trade, which increased his connection to the place and instilled in him a love of meditation.
He studied elementary school in the city of Abha, then moved to Riyadh while he was in the first intermediate grade, where he studied at Hittin School, then completed the second and third intermediate grades in the city of Khobar in the eastern region. His studies in Al-Khobar Model Medium had a strong influence that helped refine his artistic talent, as he studied there under a number of distinguished teachers from the sister country of Iraq, such as Professor Shaker Hussein, who taught him a number of important technical foundations.
He returned to his city, Abha, to complete his secondary school studies there, then he studied at the Art Education Institute for Teachers in Riyadh, and from there he set out in the sky of art to participate in a number of competitions and art exhibitions and win prizes.

He began his activity in the second half of the seventies, and he is considered one of the first generation in Asir. He is an impressionist artist who painted in his style the environment of Asir with all its farms, mountains, houses, and others.
In 2001, the plastic artist, Mr. Abdullah Al-Shalti, was honored by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal as one of the pioneers of Saudi plastic art. On this occasion, the artists of the southern region held a group exhibition in the village of Al-Moftaha, in which the most prominent artists of the region and its youth participated, expressing pride in the status achieved by the Al-Shilti artist, in which he was considered an ambassador for plastic artists in the southern region.

In 2014, the “Abha People’s Forum” held a ceremony in honor of the pioneering plastic artist, Abdullah Al-Shalti, on the reserve stage in the Al-Muftaha plastic village. Al-Shalti returned one of them, then the companion of the honorable path, the artist Mufreh Asiri, gave a speech during which he presented some of his memories with Al-Shalti over more than forty years, followed by a speech by Dr. Shaher Al-Nahari, in which he described Al-Shalti’s relationship with the city of Abha, through a narrative text, ranging in his language between Classical and colloquial, and it was permeated with many local terms. Then Ghazi Badawi delivered a speech in which he praised Al-Makram for his morals and art, followed by a brief speech by Mahdi bin Ibrahim Al-Raqidi, in which he shed light on the artistic beginnings of Al-Shilti, then Al-Makram gave an impressive speech in which he thanked the attendees, and especially those who They came from outside the Asir region to attend this occasion, among the companions of badminton and childhood friends, and he praised the organizers of the ceremony: the artist Abdullah Shaher, and the photographer Ahmed Niazi. And towards the end of the ceremony, which was characterized by intimacy.
his artistic style
Al-Shilti practiced both drawing and painting, and was known for his love of using oil colors, acrylics, and a number of pastes that gave his pictorial surface a special prominence. His subjects varied between depicting the Asiri environment with its homes, farms, and markets, as well as depicting holy mosques such as the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet, and the Dome of the Rock Mosque.
