Diaa Aziz Zahed (born in Cairo in 1947) is a Saudi plastic artist and sculptor who belongs to the Impressionist school of modern realism. He is one of the Saudi pioneers in the field of painting and plastic art.
Foundation
He was born in Cairo on November 28, 1947. His father is the great Saudi writer, Aziz Diaa, and his mother is the former broadcaster, Asma Zaazou. His upbringing in a family associated with culture and literature played a role in his attachment to various types of arts from an early age. He loved art since his childhood, influenced by his mother, who used to paint decorative paintings in oil colors to decorate the houses of pillows and mattresses spread in different locations in the house, and influenced by his literary father, who encouraged him morally and pushed him on the path of Artistic appreciation in its various fields, so he learned to play the violin and the lute at the age of eight, and he sang for children a number of songs written by his father and broadcast by Saudi Radio through children’s programs.
education
He received his primary education in Al-Thaghar Model Schools in Jeddah, then he completed his preparatory and secondary education, moving between several schools in Jeddah, Cairo, and Boston. In 1967, he received a scholarship from the Saudi Ministry of Education, through which he joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he graduated in 1971.
beginnings
Then, in the year 1380 AH, corresponding to 1960 AD, he began the journey of the art of painting. A royal decree issued by His Majesty King Faisal to abolish slavery, and he dedicated it to him. His moral and material encouragement had a profound impact on his artistic career.
Dia Aziz mentioned an incident that happened to him in his artistic beginnings that affected his experience, saying: "At a very young age, my first important painting was after King Faisal issued the historic decision to liberate the slaves, and I was then 15 years old, and my father told me why not paint a painting on this occasion, I liked the idea, and I actually made a painting about this event, and the painting was sent to the king, and I was surprised after a while by my father telling me that the king's office was asking to meet me, and I went on the appointed day and met the king and received great encouragement from him, and in this evidence that he - may God have mercy on him - was a lover of art. The painting "Liberation of Slaves" depicts a large valley full of stones and thorns, in which there are people chained behind each other.

After his return from Italy, he worked as a teacher of art education in Al-Thaghar Model Schools in the city of Jeddah from 1972 to 1973.
