Tell us about your artistic beginnings?
The artist, Muhammad Al-Musli

The beginning was from childhood. I was a passionate lover of drawing and always at school I was the best among my classmates. “I enjoy drawing.” I studied at the Institute of Art Education in Riyadh, which was the only institute in the Kingdom previously, and it has now been converted into an intermediate college, in addition to “the top artists in the Kingdom have graduated from it.” It contains a very strong academic teaching in plastic art.
Fine art, what does it represent to you?
Fine art is the intellectual source for bringing out all that lies in my soul, my feelings, and my mind. Through it, I express the thoughts and visions that circulate within me of issues, concerns, problems, hopes, ambitions, and events in my community and other societies.
Q: The artist has a delicate sense, do you agree with this word, or is the artist necessarily realistic?
The fact that the artist does not have a sensitive sense, then he has a great lack of taste and a sense of the beauty of the image and creative taste. A subtle sense and realism should be mated in a marriage that antagonizes the completion of the painting. Radio and television, without which the sound and image do not reach the other.
What do you think of the art scene in Qatif?
Qatif has capabilities and talents, and here when I talk about Qatif, some may think that I am exaggerating, but I am quoting some words from outside the circle of Qatif. One of the Hijaz artists, Ibrahim Al-Khabrani, wrote and published an article in the Saudi newspaper Okaz after he and his family attended an exhibition in the capital, Riyadh, almost 20 years ago. He says Qatif fine art is fine art.

What is your assessment of the media aspect in the Kingdom in general, and Qatif in particular, with regard to Qatif plastic art?
Unfortunately, the media in the Kingdom, with regard to Al-Qatif fine art, is associated with zero, as no channel comes and covers an exhibition here or there except for the Saudi cultural channel, and it is sometimes less. As the fourth of the day for every follower, as for the media in Qatif, Juhayna news newspaper is the most interactive network. Yes, there are other networks, but in fairness it is the number one, and its correspondents, God willing, are like a hive of bees that do not know stillness and indolence.
What are the prizes and posts that you got and participated in?
There are participations, the last of which was two exhibitions, an exhibition in Florida, America in 20011, and an exhibition in Oregon in 20012. I note that many of the paintings in which I participate are lost and I do not conceal from you that sometimes I go to Riyadh in order to review them, and for this I stopped participating except by taking a guarantee of their return in advance, and as for the prizes, they are Multiple and the best of them was the first place in the Kingdom in 1427 AH in Riyadh within the plastic art competition of the Ministry of the Interior on drugs. I attributed it to a plastic artist, and here I stand to say: “Is this work deliberate, or is it a mistake, I do not know.”

Do you have other interests outside of fine art?
Yes, I have a museum in my house for which I have allocated an entire role that is divided into 6 sections, namely: documents “Documents about the family, Tarut Island and Qatif”, folklore, folklore “clothes belonging to women, men and women”, professional tools used in palm trees, household and marine tools The studio is “the place where I practice painting, and hold workshops and courses - currently the workshops and courses are suspended.” Here, I announce exclusively through the Juhayna news newspaper that a personal exhibition will be held in the coming days.
Is your writing in the direction of plastic art, or does it have other directions?
Writing in the beginning was a critical reading in fine art that I published in the Bahraini Al-Ayyam newspaper, the Emirati newspaper Al-Khaleej, and the Saudi Al-Youm newspaper.
A painting that is still in the memory of the artist Muhammad Al-Musli and has a present story from time to time?
In fact, many of the paintings are still in my memory and have a story, but I will suffice with mentioning this painting. One day my son Islam was crawling in the kitchen. He took a potato bun and stuck a pen inside it, and a white substance came out of it. I took it and put it in front of me and I painted it. When I asked Islam about it, he said, “Wawa.” I called it pain, and an Egyptian writer wrote an article about it 20 years ago entitled “Everyone is in pain” in the Saudi newspaper Al-Youm.
