It is the official administrative capital of the Kingdom of Morocco. It is an urban community located in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region. Its population is 717,572 people according to the 2014 census. It is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and on the left bank of the mouth of the Bouregreg River, which separates it from the city of Salé. The city is famous for its textile industry and is home to Mohammed V University, the first modern university established in Morocco after independence.
