Adel Harbi was born on January 1, 1956. He graduated from the Academy of Arts at the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts in Cairo in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Acting and Directing. He also obtained a Diploma in Directing in 1993 with a thesis on the possibility of using weather phenomena and popular practices in Sudan to prepare and train actors.
He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Music and Drama at the University of Sudan. He has been working as a lecturer at the same faculty since 1982. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1996, Associate Professor in 2000, and Professor in 2009. He has also held various positions such as Head of the Acting Department, Head of the Directing Department, Head of the Drama Department, and Director of the National Folk Arts Troupe.
He has written several books on theater and drama, such as "The Performing Arts in Sudan: Cultural Dimensions", "The Performing Arts in Sudan: Technical Dimensions", "Dialogues in World Theater: Ideas and Techniques", "Dramatic Dialogues in Sudanese Culture", and "Theater and Globalization".
He has also published many research papers and studies on topics such as Brecht's theater, musical comedy, arena theater, body expression, epic vision, popular dance, folk games, folk rituals, and laughter in Eugene Ionesco's theater.
He has directed and acted in many theatrical works, such as "The Trial", "The King is Dead", "The Death of a Salesman", "The Merchant of Venice", "The Crucible", "The Visit", "The Caucasian Chalk Circle", "The Good Person of Szechwan", "Mother Courage and Her Children", "Waiting for Godot", "Rhinoceros", and "Macbeth".
He has also participated in many national and international festivals and conferences, such as the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater, the Arab Theater Festival, the International Theater Institute Congress, and the International Federation for Theater Research Conference.
