Visual artist Asma Al-Dakheel goes through her experience and presents her texts and phrases in Saudi expressive colors. The painting controls her and leaves her to tell her story without interfering in her path. The painting is beyond her control. She does not know how to begin or how to end. She sees great importance for art as a human activity that plays its role within society. She founded With a group of artists from Alwan Fine Arts Group, Al-Eqtisadiah met the artist Asmaa and conducted this interview with her about the Saudi fine arts scene and her artistic activity, to the details: When do you start drawing a painting, and how do you choose its content? The beginning does not matter...as much as the idea is urgent and transforms it from a mental process into a state of ecstasy, you lose control of yourself and do not control the template you want to formulate...a feeling driven by force that I cannot control...do not submit to my will, but control it and it appears. Its content when working on it. * The artist goes through stages and turning points that affect his artistic career. What are the most prominent stages that gave depth and clarity to your plastic experience? I consider collective experiences in the beginnings of art to be a firm rule that laid the objective foundations for the beginning of an artistic breakthrough and still does. Working in a group spirit fills gaps that may be neglected. It also increases the artist’s strength and stability, whether in artistic style, critical artistic vision, or granting the ability to respond to beauty through reading works and Giving ideas for future plans as well, and through my practice of art as a humanitarian activity aimed at achieving good and benefit for people, I fully realized the performance of art in an effective way and with real dimensions when a specific artistic idea is transmitted to a group of people who are in need of humanitarian assistance. Color has power and meaning for every artist, and artists share meanings for colors. Do we find new meanings for colors in your paintings? Colors always and forever give values that are rich in association and expressiveness that reside within the soul, no matter how we analyze each color and its psychological or psychological reality. They represent the individual’s feelings related to joy, sadness, anger, or pride and all degrees of emotion. It is internal and may give other completely different things. The painting may take Dual colors dancing due to their heat...or stagnating on the surface of lakes due to their cold. We find in your works a tendency towards abstraction. What is the reason behind this? Every artist must go through stages starting with his academic education... learning the correct objective foundations of drawing... and practicing the artistic progression of realistic design and drawing... after which, through his practice and personal experiences, his works and personality may be molded into a form that tends toward realism, symbolism, or abstraction. ... Perhaps my works do not take the abstract form as much as they are modern art in method or style through expression with material and color. You are one of the founders of the Alwan group. What did the group offer to the plastic arts scene? In fact, I do not want to exaggerate the activity of the Colors of Collection group and its artistic presence. Being one of its founders, I see its seriousness, its good presence, and its practical presence in cultural forums... I do not belittle the rest of the groups’ rights. On the contrary, I see active groups and their presence is remarkable... which gives a spirit of enthusiasm and competition. Al-Sharif...to serve the visual arts in the Kingdom, and this is the basic and highest demand that every artist has. Plastic artists are anticipating the establishment of their own association. How do you view this association and the extent of its service to plastic artists, whether beginners or those who have made progress in this field? I expect a lot from her. I am eagerly awaiting her birth. What we see from the enthusiasm of plastic artists towards it gives us hope that its establishment will be accompanied by a real shift in Saudi plastic art. How do you see the development of Saudi female visual artists? Remarkable... and strong... My opinion of her may be somewhat racist towards female artists, but... her presence is beautiful and her continuation is evidence of her achieving her goals... and I dream of it being the nucleus for establishing an Arab women’s gathering interested in art.
